BIO:

Brian Higbee’s lifelong fascination and devotion to understanding others reverberates profoundly, and loudly through his work – a driving force that has carried him through many lives and shaped his path as an artist, and as a person.

Growing up in Rhode Island, his early days as a restless teenager parlayed into the world of hardcore music, skateboarding and snowboarding. This rebellious landscape formed his perspective and sharpened his eye, attuning him to an unfiltered view of character and personality. A chance encounter with his grandfather’s film camera opened the door to photography, as he began documenting his friends, capturing the gritty, unruly scene of the mid 90’s on the East Coast. This first involvement with photography still informs his style today – a bold, barebones beauty that feels instinctual and unplanned.

After a successful chapter in graphic design, he found himself being pulled once again to photography, this time gravitating toward the elegance of editorial work. Eventually he made his way to Los Angeles where he helmed a career in photography with a focus on portraiture.

Harnessing an attention to natural light, there is a direct, palpable energy that beams from each and every image – an ongoing conversation that pushes and pulls between subject and lens – unselfconscious and uninhibited, yet intimate and mysterious. The result, regardless of the project, is a vast collection that is imbued with purpose and rich with unfettered beauty.

Brian has worked with an impressive roster of iconic celebrities from Pharrell to Kurt Russel to Margaret Qualley. His portfolio also includes an array of high-end clients such as Vogue, Interview Magazine, Porter, Amazon, CW, and National Geographic  — an extensive body of work tethered to figuring people out and to capturing something raw and honest.
